Almost every classic keyboard has a PrintScreen button on board. On a number of models, in order to reduce the size, the inscriptions are reduced. For example, some laptops Toshiba brand come with a shortened marker — PrtSc. Therefore, not everyone can see a full-fledged PrintScreen key in it.

A similar situation is observed in Acer laptops, where the button name is shortened to PrntScrn. The key is located, as a rule, in the upper functional row next to F12. Why is PrintScreen not working?

On previous generation laptop models from Dell and VAIO, a screenshot can only be taken by pressing Ctrl + PrintScreen. It is also worth checking the activity keys Fn in BIOS. It can be disabled or assigned to another function. When it is not possible to take a screenshot using PrintScreen in any of the above combinations, then, most likely, third-party software is installed that overrides this functionality.

If there is no PrintScreen button in the working area, then you can call digital analogue of a standard keyboard platform means. This problem is relevant for old Asus and Toshiba laptops. Open the search box of the platform and enter «On-Screen Keyboard». We select the application, after which we click on the PrintScreen key already on the digital version. According to the instructions above, the entire screen is captured, which is not always convenient. Sometimes it becomes necessary to take a screenshot of a page or a small part of it. You can take a screenshot of the current window by pressing Alt + PrintScreen. That is, as a result, the clipboard will contain an image without a taskbar (relevant for platforms on Windows 7, 8 and 10).

You can save individual parts of the screen using the standard software of the platform: the program is called «Scissors». Before taking a screenshot of the screen on a laptop, open the search box of the platform and enter «Scissors».


Next, run the application and click on the «Create» button.

Press the Shift + Command + 4 buttons on the MacBook in turn. As a result, on the screen a crosshair will appear. Select the desired area and, if necessary, drag it while holding the space bar. Release the trackpad key to take a screenshot. When a thumbnail appears, you can edit the picture.

Open the desired page or menu branch and execute a series of Shift + Command + 4 + «Space». The usual mouse arrow will change its shape on the camera icon. If the basic settings have not been changed, then all pictures will be on the main screen in the form: screenshot[дата][время].png On Mojave platforms and later versions of the OS, it is possible to save a screenshot to a user-selected folder by specifying the path in Settings -> Screenshot or by executing the Shift + Command + 5 combination.
