Sooner or later, any parent is faced with the need to accustom the child to order. How to do it correctly and with the least «losses» for both children’s and adult psyches? Let’s try to understand this issue.
When to start teaching order?
Here all psychologists are unanimous — the sooner the better. The main thing is not to overdo it and take into account the individual characteristics of your child.
Children begin to respond to the requests of adults from about a year. They can already get something, bring, transfer. Already at this age, the child can be taught to put the things that he took into place. It’s great if the cleaning process can be turned into a kind of family tradition, a ritual before bedtime, before a walk, after class. Then the performance of these duties will be perceived calmly and as a reasonable necessity, comparable, for example, with daily brushing of teeth.
How do you teach kids to keep order?
Showing an example
At an early age, children like to copy the behavior of adults. Therefore, if you yourself maintain cleanliness and order in the house, the child will more easily and naturally adopt this model of behavior.
If at first the child is reluctant to clean up, start cleaning yourself and in the process ask the child to help you. If he starts to clean up himself, then offer him your help. It’s not scary if in the first couple you get most of the cleaning, the main thing is to involve the child in the process. Gradually, he will fold more and more toys, and then all the toys on his own.
Making cleaning fun
To make the child interested in cleaning, you can add a game moment to the process:
— arrange a competition «Who will collect faster and more»,
— offer to take the dolls home or put the cars in the garage,
— arrange a quest in which the hidden surprise can be found only when all things are in their places,
— collect toys to music
To each his own place
It is very important that each thing has its place. This will make it easier for your child to clean up. For example, dolls and plush toys can be placed in a closet, cars can be placed on a rack, turning it into a kind of multi-level garage; and put the constructor in a box.
Using motivation and praise
When accustoming a child to order, try not to resort to coercion or shouting. These methods may force the child to clean up, but he will be reluctant to do this, and the cleaning process will be perceived as a labor service or punishment.
Ask for help instead of an order, but persistently and firmly.
Express your request in a calm tone. This will not provoke a protest and will give you the opportunity to negotiate with the child.
Encourage and encourage your child
Offer to go for a walk, watch a cartoon, but only after cleaning.
Never redo the work for the child and do not criticize the quality of the cleaning done. Do not forget to praise for the established order.
And, of course, we must be patient.
You need to understand that it will not work to quickly accustom a baby to order. If today your child willingly cleaned up his room, this does not mean that tomorrow it will happen again. Therefore, we gain patience and every day, together with the child, we comprehend this difficult science.
