How to choose and install a curtain rod for a bathroom or shower room

Comfort is made up of many components, among which is the perfect functioning of properly selected equipment in all rooms, including in the shower or bathroom. Modern plumbing, comfortable bath, exquisite wall and floor finishes, bright lighting — that’s not all. Among the minor details, there are those that you simply cannot do without. For example, a cornice for a curtain in the bathroom — it is on it that the curtain rests, protecting the floor and the environment from splashing. Let’s talk about how to choose and install the cornice over the bathroom.

Choosing the design of the cornice for the bathroom and shower

You should not buy the first item you see in the store, because its main characteristics depend on the shape and size of the bath, as well as on the wall or ceiling cladding — the place to which it will be attached. The easiest way is with an ordinary standard rectangular bathtub 1, 5 m or 1.7 m. Three types of cornices are suitable for it: straight and curved (in the form of an arc) or corner, if the bathroom is installed in the corner of a large room.

Does the quality of the device depend on the material?

What affects the material from which the cornice is made? First of all, on its operational characteristics and term of use. A metal tube will “live” much longer than a plastic one, since the metal is wear-resistant and resistant to mechanical damage. Metal models are different, but most of them are made of polished stainless steel. The processed material does not rust, does not become moldy and has a long service life. Tubular metal cornices can last for decades.

Installation of curtain rods in the bathroom or shower

Almost all models are mounted in the same way — using flanges fixed to the walls. However, there are nuances that distinguish the installation of a straight and angular, flexible and rigid, telescopic and one-piece product. Let’s consider the installation features of the corner cornice, but first a few words about the tool. You will need marking material (pencil, tape measure, level, square), a construction knife, a puncher with 5 mm drills (on concrete or tile) sometimes it is enough to have a screwdriver, screwdriver, fasteners (dowels, screws or screws can come with a cornice). When choosing fasteners, be sure to consider the material of the walls and ceiling.

Features of installing a rod with flanges

Prepare a pencil with a tape measure to accurately mark the attachment point, puncher and screwdriver. As a fastening material, we will use self-tapping screws and dowels that are supplied in the kit (if not, you need to take care of buying them in advance). Sometimes the screws are tightened with a special hexagon, which is attached to them. On the wall we mark three points of attachment of the flanges. The distance between them is the length of the rod. We calculate the height above the edge of the bath in the following way: subtract 20 cm from the length of the curtain (the curtain will be lowered into the bath for such a length).

Scheme of installation of the eaves

We take the first metal flange, apply the center to the marked place. Usually they have a round shape and 3 holes for self-tapping screws. We put dots in the holes with a pencil — we mark the places of drilling. We remove the flange, with a puncher we make three holes at the marked points. We insert the dowels, apply the flange again and fasten it with self-tapping screws. We repeat the same on the other side.

Bracket reflectors

Before installing the rod, we put reflectors on it — metal round strips that cover the working part of the flange. We insert both ends of the tube into the holders, fix it with special clamping bolts. We move the reflectors tightly against the wall — the work is finished. Usually in the instructions, in addition to the order of work, there are some explanations for the installation of products of various types. Please read them carefully before proceeding with the installation.

For example, often the manufacturer pays attention to such an insignificant nuance as the location of the clamping screw on the rod (usually with the head up). At first glance, a trifle, but in fact only this position will provide stability and avoid sagging.

The quality of the installation of the eaves

The advantage of models fixed with flanges or brackets is obvious: in addition to a plastic curtain, they easily hold a towel or bathrobe thrown over the crossbar. Such devices are best suited for asymmetric bathtubs located in a corner or in a niche.
